PAPER ARROWS - Elementary Science Fair Project - Aerodynamics

November 21st, 2006

PAPER ARROWS
Materials required: - paper.
Take a square paper and fold it as shown in the picture step by step. After finishing the sixth stage, hold the bottom of the 5 fold. Point the sharp edge away from you and throw it with a quick jerk in the air. See how like an arrow it shoots up and gradually glides down. You can play, “Whose arrow will fly the higher?
Which one will fly for a longer period?”

Why? It is easy for the point to prick and tear the air. It is not easy for the flat portion. A fish, a boat, an aero plane and even some race cars have a conical front for the same reason. They can go forward with least resistance of air against them. Elementary Science Fair Project on Aerodynamics .
